History and Personal Experience

CarolPortrait-2Fortune smiled on me many years ago when I was in a car accident which resulted in a bad case of whiplash and eventually brought me to the massage table of a woman named Kristin. That experience steered me into a career that I love and have been practicing since 1982.

I had never had a massage before but I clearly remember to this day the sense of caring and attention that I received from Kristin and the fact that I felt so relaxed afterward that I literally floated home. This experience changed the course of my life. I found the focus of alternative health care disciplines to be entirely different than anything I had ever experienced in Western medical care and I went on to study everything I could find in the field of alternative health care and Oriental healing arts. I began my alternative healing journey with the study of Polarity. Dr. Randolph Stone, the originator, wrote that the relationships between mind, body and spirit are the basis of health and healing. He described something called “energy fields”, which was a new and fascinating concept to me, and how disease results when these “energy fields” are out of balance.

When I received polarity sessions, I would feel remarkable shifts taking place in my body, old tensions and long held emotions melting away and then feel tremendous peace of mind after a session. My own clients had similar experiences, loved the work and found it as beneficial as I did. Each healing discipline that I studied took a different focus of action, but every one of them took into consideration the importance of addressing the whole person as a unique individual.

Strategy and Philosophy

My intention in working with you is to assist you in understanding the patterns in your life that lead to stress, illness and disease, and to activate healing energy and the relaxation response utilizing the healing arts that are appropriate to your condition and needs. As appropriate, I will also give you resources to take home such as yoga movements and breathing techniques to help relieve stress and generate internal harmony and peace of mind. I believe, and have personally experienced, the self-healing capabilities and the wisdom of the body. Whenever relevant, I give you all the information that I have available that might assist you in supporting your self-healing.

Depending on your goals and desires, we will co-create a personalized health plan in order to inspire a more positive, balanced perspective on life and assist you in reconnecting with vital healing energy. This plan might include a healing art such as Shiatsu, Trigger Point massage, Polarity therapy, a personalized yoga practices, meditation, nutritional suggestions and other related resources.

I also became a yoga teacher accidentally. Through an experience that was similarly serendipitous to discovering Massage Therapy, I signed up for a workshop that I thought was going to be a Yoga Retreat. I had been avidly practicing Kundalini Yoga since 1976 and was delightedly looking forward to this ‘retreat.’ To my great surprise, when I arrived at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in 1988, I found myself in a Yoga Teacher Training – a mistake that I have never regretted. My error not only opened the door to another career that I deeply love, it also introduced me to one of the world’s greatest and most profound philosophies. I’m still pursuing that path.

My intention in Yoga classes, is to share the profound teachings of yoga philosophy and to teach Hatha Yoga in a way that cultivates strength, flexibility, relaxation, inner harmony and a deeper understanding of your own unique way of being in the world. Yoga isn’t about doing the perfect posture. It is a journey of self-discovery and of learning what is needed in your individual path toward wholeness.

My own practice of yoga and meditation over the past 36 years has proven its worth by keeping me exceptionally healthy and able to carry on with the intense physical demands of a busy massage therapy practice and Yoga teaching schedule.

I feel an intense satisfaction in what I do and am always working to deepen and expand my own knowledge and skills in alternative healing arts and philosophies in order to bring the best to clients and students. I love the challenges that bodywork, energy healing and teaching yoga bring and have a lifetime dedication to applying the wisdom I’ve gained in many years of practice and study for the benefit of my clients and students.
